Decontamination Services In Bradenton, FL
How Bad Could It Be?
Pests cause many problems for building owners, from damaging your property to causing illnesses in your family and employees. Eliminating the pest problem is an important part of protecting your home and business, but in some instances, just getting rid of the pest infestation is not enough. The droppings and urine from rats, mice, squirrels, raccoons, bats, birds and other pests can leave your beloved home or business with severe health risks and awful smells.
Some pests, like rodents, bats and birds, leave behind messes that are not only disgusting but also dangerous to your health. Rodents leave waste behind wherever they go. Rats actually dribble urine and leave sebum (oily secretion from their glands) wherever they walk. Often this is referred to as "rub marks". Urine-soaked insulation as well as the dander from their skin and hair can exacerbate allergy and asthma symptoms even when rodents were only in the attic. Rodents have very heavy protein content in their urine which strongly contributes to the increased allergy and asthma issues. This is the most common health issue with rodents in your attic. Also, particles of dried feces can become airborne as air moves throughout the attic.
Although rare, rodent feces can carry the very dangerous, and often deadly hantavirus. Bat feces (guano) can cause severe issues also. The most common and concerning issue with bat guano is histoplasmosis, a fungus, which once inhaled into your lungs, can not be killed. It often lays dormant, giving way to occasional "flareups" overtime. (See our Health Risks page for more information.)
Bird feces can carry more health risks than all the wildlife and pests we deal with combined. Complicating the issue, more customers are resistant to hearing about the dangers of birds than any other pest or animal we deal with. A Rodent Solutions tech will inspect the severity of the damage in your house, attic or commercial structure and recommend a course of action in the Sarasota, Bradenton, Parrish, and surrounding area.
Our Decontamination Service Offerings
Cleaning up the messes and feces that pests leave behind is just as important as eliminating the pest infestation, and it requires training, skill, hard work, and the proper safety equipment. Rodent Solutions offers decontamination services that clean up, disinfect, and sanitize the areas most affected by a pest infestation.
Living Area Infestations
If you were unfortunate enough to have a rat/mouse or other rodent infestation inside your living area, we also perform inside cleanup and decontamination. Each case is handled individually but indoors we use a high-quality "true" HEPA vacuum.
The filtration on this prevents microscopic feces particles from being shot into the air through the exhaust as most normal vacuums do. It also has a sealed container which must be disposed of when it is full. This helps contain the contaminates even further. Think of it as the vacuum that might be used in a "clean room" scenario. Our decontamination vacuums meet or exceed the standards for food production and medical facilities.
This service is almost always performed over garages that have little or no insulation. Areas over the garage tend to be the area Floridians use for extra storage. We can remove your personal items from the attic, vacuum up all droppings in the area where you wish to continue to store items, then perform an anti-bacterial enzyme treatment in the attic before returning the items to the attic.
Our enzyme treatment is dispersed by an atomizer with the ability to fog an attic at 7 microns with a bacterial digester that neutralizes illness-causing pathogens. The enzyme we use contains a disinfectant, sanitizer, and virucide and is applied using the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Our product is also labeled for use against the potentially deadly, rodent-borne hantavirus. It can be thought of as a bacterial digester decontaminating nearly all wildlife borne-diseases that it touches in the attic. This is the most economic course of corrective action for the insulated part of your attic. NOTE: For clarity, an enzyme service does not dissolve feces. Any chemical strong enough for that would also damage the infrastructure of your in the attic (Wiring, AC ducts etc.)
What is Ozone?
Ozone, (O3), sometimes called "activated oxygen", contains three atoms of oxygen rather than the two atoms we normally breathe. Ozone is the second most powerful sterilizer in the world and can be used to destroy bacteria, viruses and odors. Interestingly ozone occurs quite readily in nature, most often as a result of lightning strikes that occur during thunderstorms. In fact the "fresh, clean, spring rain" smell that we notice after a storm most often results from nature's creation of ozone.
How does Ozone work?
The third oxygen atom of ozone makes it extremely reactive. This atom readily attaches itself to other odor molecules. When contaminants such as odors, bacteria or viruses make contact with ozone, their chemical structure is changed to less odorous compounds. As more ozone attacks the remaining compounds, the odor is eventually destroyed. This process is called oxidation. Ozone essentially reverts back to oxygen after it is used. This makes it a very environmentally friendly oxidant.
Ozone breaks down odor at a molecular level, so over the course of an ozone treatment, you need to produce enough ozone molecules to react with all of the odor-causing molecules in your house. The cleaner the source of the odors, the better the ozone will treat the scent that remains. It is a little known fact to our customers that the UV light that they had their AC company install in their system actually creates a very tiny amount of Ozone. While it's up for debate how effective these low powered lights are, you won't find that with our commercial-grade generators. Our units are rated by the manufacturer to handle up to 20,000sqft.
While Ozone is safe when used correctly, we will not install an Ozone machine in an occupied home. We feel our customer's safety is paramount. When using an ozone generator, always take care to keep pets, plants, and people (the 3 P’s) out of the area that is being treated, especially at the levels in which we are able to treat. Ozone treatments are fantastic for getting into all the little areas inside a home, attic, or wall because ozone is only the size of three molecules. It's just one of our options for decontamination.
Attic Insulation Removal & Installation
When a pest infestation occurs in the attic, there are many different treatments we can perform. Only customers with the heaviest levels of damage are recommended to have an attic restoration. An attic restoration involves removing the insulation and feces from the attic, treating the attic with an enzyme or ozone treatment, and re-installing new insulation in the attic. This process is the most costly, yet most complete method. Less than 3% of our customers are recommended to have an attic restoration because of the cost and the need. We provide a large amount of documentation of the damage in your attic to help you make an educated, informed decision before spending this kind of money with us.
How much does it cost?
Each situation is handled as a custom situation. Unfortunately, after years of providing decontamination services, we have learned that there is no accurate way to give a price without seeing the complete picture. All decontamination estimates are custom to your particular situation. If we did not pest-proof your building, we will also inspect it when we arrive to ensure there are no remaining openings for rodents before we suggest that you invest in one of our decontamination services.
